UniteWomen.org ACTION was established in February of 2012 to combat the Republican attacks on women’s rights on the federal and state levels. Our continued effort has highlighted the efforts by Republicans to not only diminish our rights but to block any progress toward equality. We have also highlighted the efforts by President Obama and Democrats to push for progressive values and further our progress toward equality. They have had remarkable success in light of the opposition and obstruction by Republicans.
It is very clear that prior to and during our existence, actions by the two major political parties are in stark contrast on most issues.
This is only one, but very important, reason UniteWomen.org ACTION endorses Hillary Clinton for President and Democrats in all federal, state and local elections, our first time ever endorsing a candidate or political Party.
Our ‘Laws of Two Nations’ campaign shows how we would be two very different countries depending on which party was able to put their platform and bills into law. You can view the 2016 campaign here and for 2012 here.
If you stand for women’s rights, LGBTQIA rights, social justice, economic justice, voting rights, money in politics, Supreme Court nominees, diplomatic solutions, healthcare, the cost and quality of education, the environment, and much more, you will understand just how crucial it is that we elect Hillary Clinton and Democrats across our nation.
Pretty much every Liberal/Progressive/Democrat wants Citizens United overturned. We would not even have Citizens United if a Democrat had been elected in 2000 and 2004.
SCOTUS under Bush:
John Roberts replaced William Rehnquist
Samuel Alito replaced Sandra Day O’Connor
SCOTUS under Obama:
Sonia Sotomayer replaced David Souter
Elena Kagan replaced John Paul Stevens
Now consider the SCOTUS decisions that have been made not only on Citizens United, but also voting rights and civil rights, if we had had a 6-3 court vs. the current 5-4 court. A President Clinton will appoint very different Supreme Court justices than a President Trump.
As important as it is to make sure Donald Trump does not set foot into the White House, there are so many reasons to stand with and vote for Hillary Clinton. First, there is only one candidate who not only supports but strongly advocates for women’s rights and that is Hillary Clinton. While in the Senate, Hillary not only voted for many bills progressing women’s rights but she also introduced legislation. Read more detail here.
Hillary states her support for women’s rights, unprompted, at every opportunity.
We all want to get money out of politics. Some are concerned with who contributes to Hillary’s campaign. Hillary, even though her campaign was supported by Wall Street, had an anti-Wall Street record while she was in the Senate. We are more interested in how the candidates voted than who donated to them. You have to get into office before you can have a chance to get money out of politics. In our current system, it takes a lot of money to win.
We spoke with many Kentucky voters after their race for governor last November. Many progressives stated that they didn’t vote because the Democratic candidate was not progressive enough. All of the progress that the previous Democratic governor made is now being wiped out by the new Republican governor. Is it not far easier to further progressive change from a more progressive position?
We remember what many said when President Obama didn’t deliver on his promises one year into his term. Many turned on him and decided not to vote in the 2010 midterm election to express their anger. That didn’t work out too well, did it? A purity test approach to voting got us the Tea Party in 2010. A purity test approach to this election will not elect progressives. It will elect Trump and Republicans, keeping Democrats from taking the Presidency, U.S. Senate, many Governorships, and state houses.
Please view our #KnowYourCandidates campaign to see where each candidate stands on the issues important to you. You will see that Hillary and Democrats stand for our rights and we cannot afford to take any action that would prevent them from being elected.
