Today is one of those days when I question my complete commitment to fighting for women’s rights. Tomorrow our Supreme Court rules on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act and the U.S. House votes to hold Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.
I have certainly had other days where I have wondered why I spend so much of my time fighting for our rights. I see pure politics and propaganda playing all of us on critical issues and it seems our efforts are for naught.
The individual mandate has been demonized by the right wing and main-stream media which has brought us to a point where the Supreme Court may rule to overturn a law that has brought more affordable healthcare to millions of Americans.
Darrell Issa will go down in history for leading the U.S. House of Representatives to holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress…the first ever. All in the name of politics.
Then I realize there is a parallel. For the people behind these two actions, it’s all a political game and gaining power. Isn’t that what we are fighting? Certain members of our government are trying to silence us and take our rights away all in the name of gaining power.
With the elections nearing, many candidates are wondering what they need to do to gain our vote. The corporately owned media will only contribute to the spin. We must stay focused on our mission of educating ourselves and those around us on where each of these candidates authentically stand on the issues threatening our rights.
